Shower Tile Calculator

Calculate tile for shower walls, the floor or both in one place. Enter the measured surfaces, openings and tile size to see area, tile count and optional box quantities.

THE WORKFLOW

How to use this shower tile calculator

  1. Choose walls, floor or walls + floor.
  2. For walls, enter back, left and right widths, common height and openings. For floor, enter length and width.
  3. Enter tile dimensions and optional waste; calculate surface subtotals and tile counts, with optional box coverage.

Formula & assumptions

Wall area = (back + left + right wall widths) × height − openings. Floor area = floor length × floor width. Selected area = included wall area + included floor area. Exact tiles = selected area / tile face area. Order tiles = round up(exact tiles × (1 + waste / 100)). Boxes = round up(order area / entered box coverage).

Area-based estimates are not a cut/layout plan. No grout spacing or overlap is deducted. Box coverage is supplied by the user; tile and box counts are separate purchase options. Shower walls use three entered wall widths; floor and walls can be selected separately.

AN ARITHMETIC EXAMPLE, NOT A RECOMMENDATION

Worked example

Example only: 3 × 4 ft floor, three walls 4 + 3 + 3 ft wide and 8 ft high, no openings, 12 × 12 in tiles, no extra.

92 tilesOrder tiles
  • Wall area80 ft²
  • Wall area7.432 m²
  • Floor area12 ft²
  • Floor area1.115 m²
Example calculation

Wall area = (back + left + right widths) × height − openings = 7.432243 m². Floor = 1.114836 m². Selected total = 8.54708 m².

8.54708 m² ÷ (0.3048 m × 0.3048 m) = 92 tiles. Apply 0% extra = 92; round up to 92. Boxes, if entered, use order area ÷ box coverage, rounded up.

Common questions

What walls are included?

The three widths you enter: back, left and right. Wall area is their sum multiplied by the common entered height.

Does this include waterproofing?

No. It estimates tile quantity only, not waterproofing, installation materials or structural requirements.

Estimates only. Verify measurements and manufacturer packaging/yields. Project conditions vary. This tool does not provide structural engineering advice. Read the disclaimer.
