THE WORKFLOW
How to use this concrete calculator
- Choose rectangular volume, wall / trench or round column mode.
- Enter the dimensions, confirm their units and set the number of pours.
- Add optional waste, calculate and compare net volume with order volume.
Formula & assumptions
Rectangle: V = L × W × D × quantity. Cylinder: V = π × (diameter / 2)² × depth × quantity. Order = net × (1 + waste / 100).
Dimensions describe the project, not its suitability. Rectangular walls and trenches use the same prism formula. Constant dimensions and uniform depth are assumed. One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet.

Worked example
Arithmetic example only: one cylinder 2 ft in diameter and 6 ft high, no extra. These dimensions are not a design recommendation.
- Net volume0.698 yd³
- Order volume0.698 yd³
- Order volume18.85 ft³
- Order volume0.534 m³
Example calculation
Geometry: base area 0.291864 m² × depth 1.8288 m × quantity 1 = 0.53376 m³.
Extra: 0.53376 m³ × (1 + 0 / 100) = 0.53376 m³. Conversion: divide m³ by 0.764554857984 to obtain yd³.
Bags: 18.849556 ft³ ÷ 0.6 ft³ per bag = 31.415927; round up to 32.
Common questions
Does this choose dimensions for my project?
No. Enter dimensions from your project plan. The calculator measures quantity, not structural suitability.
How much extra should I enter?
Use the allowance appropriate to your measurements, project conditions and supplier. The field is editable; there is no universal waste percentage.
Estimates only. Verify measurements and manufacturer packaging/yields. Project conditions vary. This tool does not provide structural engineering advice. Read the disclaimer.
